Ready or Not is a horror/thriller/dark comedy with a lot of attitude to it. It’s one that is not for the faint of heart, as the violence is brutal and common. The humor surrounding said violence is dark, but remarkably funny if that’s your kind of thing. This movie has a very specific audience, and for that audience, it is perfect. For many other people, it might be a bit too much. For the audience that enjoys this type of movie, it is an instant classic.

In the movie, a new bride is forced into a deadly game of hide-and-seek with her very wealthy in-laws. Based upon a deal with the devil, the family must find her and sacrifice her by morning, or the consequences will be dire. It’s a lot of fun, and the family should be able to easily succeed, but there is a prevailing attitude among them that makes everything much more difficult.

The family believes that they must do things the way they have always been done. Even though it was never part of the “deal”, the family plays the game as their great grandfather, the one who made the deal, would. This means, they use outdated tools like crossbows and axes. They don’t use their modern security systems, like the cameras they have throughout the mansion. This leads to extreme inefficiency and makes their job much more difficult.

Many businesses struggle from the same attitude. The way that business has been done is the way that they want to continue doing it, in some sense of tradition and not wanting to disrupt the cycle. They should be doing the opposite. Sticking with the way things have been done creates outdated and inefficient systems. Staying with pre-established patterns in your organization can be comfortable, but it limits your growth and stifles your potential. The way to grow your business and move things forward is by constructive change. It’s done by looking for new ways to innovate, to improve the way that you do business.
